Passion Tea

Tazo Iced Passion Tea

Passion tea has been my favorite tea this summer! Passion tea is a beautiful blend of hibiscus blossoms, passion fruit, lemongrass, orange peels, cinnamon, rose hips, and a hint of chamomile. Hard to imagine what these flavors would taste like? Imagine a refreshing herbal punch! Because this is an herbal tea blend, it is caffeine-free. So feel free to enjoy this drink all day and all night long!

Recently, I have been making this tea at home using Tazo tea bags. Tazo makes them in Iced Pitcher sized bags, or regular cup sized bags. Because of my slight obsession with tea, I of course chose the pitcher sized bags. I have also been making mine with lemonade. To make this, I simply throw my tea bag into the bottom of the pitcher, add a bit of Country Time's Pink Lemonade Instant powder, than add my boiling water. No additional sweetener is needed (but you can add some if you need it). After I mix all the contents and the tea has steeped for at least 10 minutes (sometimes longer) I chill this tasty beverage in the refrigerator. Or if I can't wait, I'll pour it over ice to chill it faster.

Dirty Hot Chocolate

Okay, I know, I know! Technically, this is NOT Tea. But this is the drink I have been absolutely loving this winter. Oxford, Mississippi is way colder than I could have ever anticipated and I am always craving something nice and warm. However, I am not a big coffee drinker. This recipe is the perfect blend of warmth with just enough kick to get you through the day. I hope you enjoy it! What is it? Dirty Hot Chocolate is your traditional hot chocolate with a bit of a kick. Typically, it adds a shot of espresso to your cup, providing just the right amount of caffeine needed to either start your day or allowing you to finish it strong. Unfortunately, as a broke college student, I don't have an espresso machine. So, here, I provide an alternative to this beverage that is just as good! I use the Swiss Miss classic milk chocolate hot chocolate. Of course, any brand would do for this. I prepare this as per the directions on the box by heating ~ 8 oz of water and adding the co...

Earl Grey Tea

Tea Time Tea is my all time favorite drink! There are so many different flavors and types for all sorts of health and dietary needs. This section of my blog will showcase my favorite teas and why I enjoy them! Earl Grey Earl Grey Tea is a black tea with a slight citrus flavor. This tea is packed with caffeine (55-90 mg per cup) which makes it a great alternative for a morning coffee, while still allowing you to get a head-start on your daily water intake. This tea is named after Earl Charles Grey, who was the prime minister of England from 1830 to 1834. There are many stories that attempt to explain why Earl Charles Grey was given the honor of having a tea named after him, but none seem to agree with each other. Whatever the story behind the name, no one can deny the bold flavor this tea delivers. I enjoy this tea several different ways. The brand I use is Bigelow and is pictured below. Traditionally, tea is steeped in hot water. However, I especially like this tea steeped in ...

Choosing Biochemistry

As a child, you are constantly asked "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I always knew I wanted to do something science-related, but I never imagined that I would be pursuing Biochemistry. In the movies, you always see eager college freshmen moving onto campus with their perfect major picked out, with their entire life planned out down to the age that they plan to retire. This picture-perfect scenario was the total opposite of how I came to college and discovered my true passion. I began my studies at Xavier University of Louisiana in the summer of 2012. This was directly following my graduation from high school in Tennessee. I had never even been to Louisiana a day in my life. I knew from my experiences in high school that I loved chemistry and I also very much enjoyed my biology classes. However, I didn't know that I could combine the two and get the best major ever created! I started at Xavier as a Chemistry and Math double major. I realized very quickly that ...
