1 Year Down, 4 To Go: Life Update

And just like that, my first year of graduate school was complete! I can NOT believe that I survived it....but then again, how could I possibly doubt myself? #HumbleBrag After my first committee meeting! :) I have learned sooo much this year, not only academically, but about myself personally. This has been quite the journey. I know that I have been MIA for a while now, but I am back and excited to have the time to blog some more. I have so much to say and so much to update you guys on with my life. If you're not already, follow me on instagram (@12bre45) to keep up with the latest. I post most frequently there. But in the meantime, here is a quick life-update Graduate School  This first year has been amazing. I completed my second semester with all As, had a great first committee meeting (which I will write a separate post about), and I have made some great strides in my research. For those of you that are new here, I go to the University of Mississippi and I am worki...

Be a Goal Digger

I've always been that girl who looks forward to the new year. So many amazing things happen with the new year. Although I've never been one to say the cliche "New Year, New Me," I do believe this is a great opportunity to make a better you. They say your goals are more likely to come true if you write them down... well here goes nothing! Be A Goal Digger!  So this year, I have a lot of things in mind that I want to truly work on. I've noticed that in my life, I tend to start things and not really follow through with them. So this is the year to change that. Below, I'm listing some of the goals I have set for myself and how I plan to achieve them. This isn't all of my goals, of course. But this is just a few that I think may resonate with you as well. Health This year, I want to be all-around healthier and more body-conscious. Right before the new year started, I got a membership at a yoga studio, and I am so excited to say that I have bee...

Homesickness -vs- Me

Being a Military Brat, I am used to traveling to new places and having to adjust to new people. But this move to Oxford, Mississippi was not easy for me. After 5 years of living in New Orleans, it had definitely become my home. All of my friends were there, my alma mater, everything. I was used to not visiting my family much in Nashville, but it was always a nice getaway when I did. And although I'm a lot closer to the people I care about, homesickness has definitely hit me hard. Recognizing the Signs Understanding how I was feeling was probably the hardest part of this transition. I have been to Nashville a few times now since I have moved to Oxford. And every time I came back for school, I missed home more and more. Ole Miss is VASTLY different than my close-knit HBCU, Xavier. There's not a lot of people that look like me in my field of study like there was at Xavier. Which is definitely the biggest thing I need to get adjusted to. Moving to a new place by myself was al...

Allow Me to Introduce Myself

Hello! Welcome to To-TEA-ly Bri! My name is Bri and I am 21 years old. I am a recent graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana, completing my bachelors degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Biology. My journey through higher education has led me to a Ph.D. program at the University of Mississippi, where I plan to obtain my doctorate degree in Biochemistry. However, I am not ONLY a student! I am an avid tea drinker, fashion enthusiast and an adventure-seeker. I created this blog to serve as a space that displays all of my passions. I hope that you will take this journey through life with me as I record the steps I take toward my Ph.D., my favorite teas, and stories of my adventures.
